Hi Miss. Anderson,

The two main characters were stuck in the prison because they are sent on a mission to the Just Deserts. Peter Nimble is a thief but that's not why he is sent to the prison. Mr. Seamus is the man Perter lived with before he got transported to the professor that assigns him the quest.

Now I am reading Summer of the Gypsy Moths. I know we are reading it in class but i don't like how we read it slowly over the days. i don't what to give away what happens next because its surprising and sudden. Are gypsy moths real?

Molly ;p

Hi Molly!

Thank you for your post! The book you are reading sounds very interesting. Why are the main characters in a prison? Did they commit a crime? Also, who is Mr. Seamus? Your favorite character certainly sounds like he has a lot of grit, despite his inability to see. Do any of the other characters in the book demonstrate grit in a different way?

I hope that you have enjoyed your February vacation!
See you soon,

Miss Anderson

P.S. Please make sure to capitalize the beginning of sentences and proper nouns!! Make the necessary changes the next time you write on the wiki :)

Hi!

I am reading Peter Nimble and His fantastic eyes. If i could talk to peter, i would say ask if he likes what has happened to him or if he would rather be still with Mr. Seamus. I like this book because it has mystery and adventures in it. i am exiced to read more of this book because the two main characters are stuck in a large prison that is a desert. It is called the Just Deserts. My favorite character is Peter. i like him because he figers out a way to see even though he is blind.
Your student,
Molly

Hello Mrs. P

Thanks for telling me the other books in the The Shadow Children. A question i have about this book is why is the government only allowing 2 kids per family? It sounds like there is enough food around for everyone to eat. It would be horrible if the government tells everyone that they can only have 2 children. It would be so unfair. Our class room is crazy with the 21 people we have! it would be chaos if we had 10 more people! After i finish the shadow Children series i an going to read some of Margret P. Haddix's books.

I am so glad that you are reading The Son of Neptune! I finally got The House of Hades to read. It came out sum time in October.

see you tomorrow!
Molly :)

Hi Molly-

I'm so glad that Among the Hidden has captured your interest. I'm pretty sure that this first book in the series was on the MCBA list my very first year of teaching- guess what else was? Silverwing!
Kind of cool that two books I love so much I would have first known about from the same list. I love doing MCBA for many reasons, but chief among them is discovering new books and new authors to share with my students.

Margaret Peterson Haddix is one of those great authors. Her books aren't necessarily "hard" to read- meaning they aren't super long like Rick Riordan books or have really difficult words, but they do often revolve around complicated or more difficult topics. Can you imagine our country, our government, saying that every family is only allowed to have two children? Does that seem fair? I bet it seems crazy but families in China are only allowed to have one child! This is because they have the largest population in the world, but are trying to keep it under control.
Can you think of any bad things that happen when there are too many people (population is too big) in one place, country? If you're not sure think about our classroom- what problems would we have if our classroom had 10 more students in it?

After Among the Hidden, the next book in the series also about Luke is called Among The Impostors . After that the series actually pauses Luke's story, and picks up the story of a third child girl named Jen- Luke is briefly mentioned in the book. This book is called Among the Betrayed. This is the only other book of this series that has actually been an MCBA.

I finally, FINALLY brought home The Son of Neptune. I think it was a clever idea of Rick Riordan's to make this new series kind of fresh and new by introducing Jason, and then having he and Percy both lose their memories and trade half-blood camps. I'll let you know after I've read a little bit what i think!

talk you you soon
Mrs. P:)

Hello Mrs. P,
I like the new books you recomened for me. I am on the first book of the Shadow Childeren, Among the Hidden. I predict that luke will stay hidden from the govrment because there wouldnt be a searies if Luke is discoverd. If i lived in that time i thnik it would be impossible to keep Owen hidden. thanks for recomending the searies. i cant wait to find out what happends next! What is the next book?

Your student,
Molly

Dear Mrs.P,
I what to tell you all about the Son of Neptune but i don't what to give the book away. I will say that Percy and Jason have some stuff in common. Jason is mentioned in this book but dose not show up till the very end. This book is about what is happening to Percy when Jason goes on his quest to save Hera. I noticed that Rick Riordan likes mythology.

i am reading The Vanishing Violin. Do you have a suggestion of a book that i might be interested in? I like adventurer and mystery books. I just am running out of good books to read.

Your student,
Molly :-)

October 28, 2013
Dear Molly,
I really wish I had taken Son of Neptune home with me a couple weekends ago. Free time for me to read is pretty fleating these days (with school work and getting our house ready for the baby) but I am very interested to find out what happens to Jason, and maybe Percy. I predict that Percy will show up in this book ( I think you also told me that ;) but I'm also wondering if maybe he has amnesia like Jason did, and doesn't remember who he is- and why if there is a very important reason that these two ended up switching sides and camps?

I can't believe we are almost at the very climax of Silverwing! After all that Shade and Marina have been through, will they finally reach Hibernaculum and get rid of goth and Throbb once and for all? I wonder if people in our class will be surprised by the ending? If I could be any character in this book, I think I would be Marina because I enjoy that she is a strong girl character and always gives Shade a hard time, but because she is trying to help him. ;)

What new books are you reading now?

Your friend,
Mrs. P

October 7, 2013
Dear Mrs. Palmieri,

I could NEVER share a room with Zach or Owen! If I could talk to Lily, I would ask her why dose she still what to share a room with her brother? I under stand why Jake whats his own room. In The Other Half of My Heart the twins (Minni and Keira King) are different skin colors. If i were Minni I would feel weird being the only white girl competing for the tittle Miss Black Pearl Preteen of America. Can you think of another MCBA book that i can read? I am almost done with this one. I am trying to read all the MCBA books this year.

I do like Rick Riordan's books a lot. I like all of the mythology in them. The Son of Neptune is about what Percy Jackson is doing when Jason Grace is off doing his quest. If I were a half-blood i would what to be the daughter of Demeter (Ceres) because I like being out side. My Favorite character in The Lost Hero is Jason because he can fly and that would be cool if i could do it. In the hole Percy Jackson series my favorite character is Percy Jackson because he can breath under water.

You fiend,
Molly :)

Dear Molly,

Thank you for being the first person to independently write to me on the wiki. I am very impressed by all the books that you've been filling in on the log and look forward to talking to you more about what you are reading. I haven't read either The Other Half of My Heart or Jake and Lilly yet, but I appreciate that you noticed that are both about twins. I can imagine that having two brothers, one older and one younger, you often wish that you had a sister! When I read the descriptions of the books, they both sound like they have sad aspects to them. If you could talk to any of the characters, what would you ask them? Even though I haven't read either book yet, I'd be curious to ask Lily at 11 years old- doesn't she want to have her own bedroom away from her brother? Can you imagine at your age sharing a room with Zach or Owen?

I took a quick look at your book log and see that you are really into The Lost Hero series. I really enjoyed that book too- let's talk about that series more when we write next. Maybe you could tell me about some of your favorite characters or a little of what happens in The Son of Neptune- don't want you to give too much away to me!

Your friend in reading,
Mrs. Palmieri :)

September 26, 2013
Dear Mrs. Palmieri,
I am reading The Other Half of my Heart by Sundee T. Frazier. This book reminds me about Jake and Lily. The books are alike because they are both about twins. If I were a twin I would hope its a sister so I could share a room. I would have my BFF living with me!
Your friend,
Molly

Dear Molly,

I am so excited to be sharing Silverwing with you this year as a read aloud. This is definitely one of my all time favorite books, which is probably why I can’t imagine starting a school year without sharing it with my class. *The genre of this book is definitely fantasy since I don’t believe that bats and owls have wars or detailed adventures together. I also consider this to be a genre of my own invention- called Animal Adventure. I love the character Shade; he’s one of my all time favorites. *If I could talk to Shade, I would ask him if he thinks it was worth it to break the law and see the sun, especially after what happens to his colony as a result. What do you think of Silverwing so far?

Your friend in reading,

Mrs. Palmieri J
