Dear Brendan-

I'm curious to know more about this Stink book. Does Stink hope he can keep some of the guine pigs? I think this might be the same Stink who is Judy Moody's brother in the series about her. Have you ever heard of the Judy Moody books? You know who loves guinea pigs in our class-Jake. He has a bunch of them at home. They are fun pets.

Can you believe that we are almost done with Sunwing? I would like to read an MCBA next. Is there one that you haven't read that you would particularly like to hear? One of the ones I was thinking of doing was Because of Mr. Terupt. This was probably one of the favorites I read over the summer. The book is about a fifth grade class, maybe a little like ours. I made a text to text connection between this book and another favorite old MCBA called Flying Solo. Both of these books are setup the same way so that every chapter is told from the point of view of a different character. I like this setup because it lets you as the reader know what the different characters are feeling. Sometimes I find this format hard to follow too as you have to keep track of a lot of different characters instead of just a couple.

Have you ever read a book with this kind of format?

Dear Brendan,
Thanks for your letters. I haven't read any of the books in the I Survived series, but I have seen a lot of kids over the last few years get really in to them. 9/11 is one of those events that I particularly find sad and scary. It's probably because I was alive and remember it very well. The book sounds like it goes into a lot of detail, especially since it has the main character right there near the buildings and having his uncle be a firefighter. Did you find this book scary? *If I could talk to this author, I would ask her what made her interested to write books that all take place during scary parts of history?

I can't believe we have under a 100 pages left of Sunwing! I feel like we have been on this journey with Shade and Marina for such a long time. We are so close to him FINALLY fnding his father. I think the author, Kenneth Oppel, must have drawn out the reunion between father and son over the two books to keep us as the readers interested and hanging on to every page. *If I were Kenneth Oppel, I would have changed one part of the story. I don't like the part where right after Shade frees the owl Orestes from his disc, he is snatched by the cannibal bats.I would have been interested to see what happened if Shade and Orestes got to spend some time together. I'm excited for the class to see how Shade, Chinook, Marina, and even Goth are all reunited in the story. It will be quite the CLIMAX when all these creatures find each other.

Dear Room 7,
I’m very excited to hear all your thoughts about what you’re reading on your individual wiki pages. I’ve really enjoyed all your enthusiasm about Silverwing. Even though this is my thirteenth time reading it, I still get really excited about sharing it every year. *The genre of this book is definitely fantasy since I don’t believe that bats and owls have wars or detailed adventures together. I also consider this to be a genre of my own invention- called Animal Adventure. I love the character Shade; he’s one of my all-time favorites. *If I could talk to Shade, I would ask him if he thinks it was worth it to break the law and see the sun, especially after what happens to his colony as a result.**
