Dear Ashley,
I am glad that you enjoyed The Lost Children! The setting of any story is definitely important. Where was this story located? What did you like about the book? Were you able to make any connections to the characters, setting, or plot of the story?
I can't wait to hear more about the story!
Your teacher,
Miss Anderson

Hi Ashley-

Im glad that the class decided we should read Sunwing next. I think it makes the most sense while the characters are still fresh in our minds, and I'm sure that people are dying to know what will happen between Shade and Goth and whether or not Shade will find his father, Cassiel, once and for all! You might remember that at the beginning of Silverwing we had alternating chapters from Shade and Marina's perspective and then Goth and Throbb. I will give you a big hint that things get a little more complicated in Sunwing, as we end up having Shade chapters, Goth chapters, and Marina chapters! Lots to keep track of. I will also tell you that Chinook is a much more important character in this book then he was in Silverwing.

What are you currently reading? I would like to see some current books on your log!

I would love to give you some recommendations- but I need some guidance of books you like. Do you like regular kids doing regular things? or maybe some books about animals? I will definitely put some books in your other log for you, but let's also talk in person so I can show you some of the
books.

Hi Ashley-
Thanks so much for your first letter. I agree with your dad, that I don't really like bats- but it's funny because I've read this book so many times that I kind of have a soft spot for bats now! Maybe its just these pretend bats though. Were you surprised what happened when Goth and Throbb did catch up with Shade and Marina? Do you think that Shade and Marina will be able to get away from them again, and find Shade's colony once and for all?

What have you been reading lately? What kinds of books do you generally like to read? I would love to recommend some books for you. Do you usually like animal adventures, or fantasy, or maybe more realistic fiction (regular kids doing regular things)

Talk to you soon,
Mrs. P:)

Dear mrs. palimari,
So for i love the book Siliverwing. The book says to me that it is going to be about a tyipe of bat called silverwing. I perdict that Goth and Throbb are going to cacth up with Shade and Merina. If i was Shade i would not go and see the sun. I think that Goth and Thorbb are going to cacth up with Shade and Marina. I olso thik that think that Shade, Marina, and the other bats will see the sun but Goth and Throbbs coliny won't beable to see the sun. This book makes me think about how my dad DOSE NOT like bat's AT ALL! I wish I could go on the adventure with Shade and Marina but I know that I can't. :( Silverwing is a animal adventer book.
Have a good rest of the day! :)-

Dear Ashley,

I am so excited to be sharing Silverwing with you this year as a read aloud. This is definitely one of my all time favorite books, which is probably why I can’t imagine starting a school year without sharing it with my class. *The genre of this book is definitely fantasy since I don’t believe that bats and owls have wars or detailed adventures together. I also consider this to be a genre of my own invention- called Animal Adventure. I love the character Shade; he’s one of my all time favorites. *If I could talk to Shade, I would ask him if he thinks it was worth it to break the law and see the sun, especially after what happens to his colony as a result. What do you think of Silverwing so far?
